My name is Mitch Thomas from St. Louis, MO. I grew up outdoors, rather playing sports, outside with friends, camping, hunting or fishing. If it was outdoors that is where you would find me. I started at 6 years old sitting with my dad in the woods (attempting) to harvest squirrels with a pellet gun. Graduated to hunting rabbits with .410, eventually falling in love with hunting upland birds. I chose Missouri Western State College because I was 25 min from my favorite place to hunt pheasant. Many morning I spent chasing pheasant and quail, while seeing the skies filled with mallards and Canada geese. Little did I know I was hunting one of Missouri’s best public waterfowl areas. That day my passion for waterfowl hunting began. The very next day (skipping class) I woke up at 2am to attend the waterfowl draw and harvested a limit on my 1st hunt. 2 drake Woodies, 1 Pintail, 1 Mallard hen, and two Mallard drakes. I was hooked (even with the countless 0’fer hunts). I have recently (5 seasons) started to chase Canada geese and Snow geese.
I enjoy the most watching friends, family and most recently my oldest daughter and only son harvest their 1st ducks and geese. Since, their 1st harvest I have made it a point to get involved more with youth hunting/fishing. With my son (7th grader) we take his teammates and friends out to the marsh hunting mallards and teal or in the fields chasing geese. It is awesome to see the young kids out there trying to work goose and duck calls or hustling out to change spreads based when wind/weather changes. The most exciting part of that day is the faces when the kids see that group of 20 plus birds work your decoys and they harvest their 1st ducks or geese. DOA and Beavertail has provided me with the opportunity to harvest more birds with the concealment of BT products and the realism of DOA paint schemes and carvings.
