I grew up learning my appreciation for the outdoors from my father, uncle, and grandfather. Growing up in Iowa meant pheasant hunting on the family farm and in those early days I just walked along and acted as “the dog.” As I got older I was able to carry the .410 and eventually got my own shotgun. My introduction into waterfowl hunting came much later in life. I was almost 30 years old when my sister invited me to go on an early season hunt and that was all it took. From the time we took that boat ride in the dark, to throwing out the decoys, and the anticipation of the morning, it was all new to me. Since that morning I enjoy hunting all waterfowl but my draw to hunting divers, especially bluebills, came from my grandfather.
